The language that suggests he is their prisoner enforces the representation that asylum seekers are dangerous people who must be locked away from society for our safety and protection. In addition to the representation that asylum seekers are dangerous, the text represents them as a misunderstood minority group that are treated in an unfair manner. From the beginning of the picture book, the man is represented as timid and weak. this is shown through the size and position of him against the rest of the villagers who are oversized compared to him. his small size and stature compared against the large mass of the villagers who are divided by a large length of space represent him as alone and timid.
