In Elizabethan times many people believe that the stars control their fate. Romeo and Juliet feel an instant love for each other when they first meet at the Capulet Masquerade. Romeo wanders into a brawl and kills Tybalt he is then banished. The letter that Friar Laurence sends to Romeo never gets to him because of the plagues. The play of Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy of fate because the characters have no control of the instant love, the climax brawl and the misguided letter.

brought them together. When Romeo enters the masquerade Tybalt is not very pleased and wants revenge.

Romeo happens to wander into a brawl. He approaches the brawl site and hears Tybalt and Mercutio exchanging insults. The insults intensify and a brawl breaks out and they start drawing their weapons. "Draw Benvolio beat down their weapons" (Shakespeare,3,1,79). After they fight Mercutio gets stabbed and dies. This enrages Romeo, and so he fights Tybalt he kills him. When the Prince comes along he banishes Romeo. This is an example of fate because the penalty for starting a brawl is death, but Romeo only got banished. Therefore Romeo and Juliet's love for each other still lives too. Friar Laurence had a very straightforward plan to get them back together.
