Regardless of your economic situation, everyone was expected to be A Protestant (“Elizabethan Family Life” 2). The sex of the family member had a large impact on your role in the family. The father set the rules for the family, and they were expected to be followed. If a direction was given, you were required to take on the duty as given. Men supported the family and made all large decisions for the family based on their well being and also based on whether or not it was beneficial to the family. Paris was wealthy is vital, because it’s important to marry in order to benefit the rest of your family. Marrying into wealth is one way to boost the position of the Capulet’s (Moss, 4). Some say that Romeo and Juliet are merely victims of fate, which could be true, or it’s just unfortunate luck that brings Juliet to be assigned a marriage to Paris.
