From the beginning of the play to the end many people had a role in Romeo and Juliet’s death in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. This is a story about two star crossed lovers destined to be together but torn apart by an ancient family feud which eventually leads to their demise. Someone who had a hand in Romeo and Juliet’s death was none other than that of Lord Capulet, Juliet’s father. Lord Capulet contributed to not only Juliet’s death but that of Romeo’s as well, by being part of the family feud, not listening to what Juliet wanted and by not caring. Capulet needs to learn to understand and start listening to what Juliet wants instead of telling her what she is going to do. Lord Capulet always told Juliet what to do as shown here, “I tell thee what-get thee to church a Thursday or never after look me in the face” (Shakespeare 806). This shows that Capulet is over ruling and doesn’t care what Juliet wants as long as he is happy. If Capulet would have not been so busy telling Juliet what to do he might have known that she was married to Romeo and then he could have stopped the feud and Romeo and Juliet wouldn’t have had to die. Obviously, Lord Capulet played a major role in Romeo and Juliet’s death.
Another reason why it is so clearly visible that Capulet contributed to the death of Romeo and Juliet is because when Juliet went to the Friar Lawrence asking for help, he gave her a potion.
