Sexual Violence Against Native Americans
European colonization in the Americas is what started the centuries of conflict between the immigrating Europeans and the indigenous Native Americans. Diseases were brought from overseas settlers, some possibly intentionally, which wiped out Native American villages. The Natives were murdered, raped, enslaved, and pushed out of the area so the White Man could settle there. A brief history will be given to set the stage, followed by a description of the violence committed and a reason why it pertains to the topic.

Diseases such as chicken pox and measles were brought to the Americas from Europe, but the disease that proved to be the most deadly was small pox. Chicken pox and measles were common but rarely fatal in Europe, but because of the low immune system of the Natives, it often proved deadly. Small pox was first introduced to the Americas in 1495 when Columbus brought African slaves from the West Indies. It is estimated that between 1495 and 1515, two-thirds of the Natives of Puerto Rico and eighty percent of the Santa Domingo population were wiped out by small pox. Some scholars believe that consciously infected goods were given to the Natives as peace offerings, but were really death traps given to them to wipe them out.
