International adoption has become one of the most controversial areas of adoption in the Nineties. International adoptions are “adoptions where the child is born outside the United States.” Some people disagree with international adoptions and believe that American residents should adopt from the United States. Another important reason people adopt from foreign countries is because they believe that children in foreign orphanages need parents desperately. China, for example, has many Chinese orphans available for adoption, especially girls, because of their birth control system. Agencies eagerly seek adoptive parents for these children. There are many countries where children and infants wait in orphanages and foster homes for parents. This would include Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Columbia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Greece, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, India, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Nepal, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
