Should Girls Wrestle In High School?

Girls that are in high school should have the option to wrestle. However, there should be certain rules that apply to them competing. If they want to compete, they should compete in their own division, which they have today. Girls, though, should not be able to compete with guys in the same division for many reasons.
One reason why girls shouldn’t be allowed to compete with guys in high school wrestling is because of the tradition. Guys have been competing against each other in wrestling now for more than five thousand years. Right now the IHSA has broken that tradition and girls are allowed to compete with guys. When wrestlers are young, both boys and girls have the same abilities whether it comes to height, strength, quickness, technique, etc. However, when they get to the teen years, guys start lifting and get stronger and quicker than they were when they were little, and become superior to girls on the mat.
Finally, a third reason why girls shouldn’t be allowed to wrestle guys in high school wrestling is because it puts a lot of pressure on the guy which may ruin his self-esteem. When a guy has to wrestle a girl, their friends expect them to win or if they don’t, they will criticize him to no end. This pressure on the guy may make him too nervous to compete and he probably won’t perform well under all that pressure.
