thought it may be worth asking whether it was assumed that women were also to recognize themselves as responsible beings. It sure made sense to hope and want to believe that women didn't even see themselves as responsible and strong willed as men. That idea made it easier for men to keep women in the home and taking care of the kids and keeping the things around the house in order.
