The speaker of the poem needs to continue on his journey but the peacefulness of the snowy woods prolongs his departure. My intention with this essay is to show the contrast between the speakers desire to observe the snowy woods and his obligation to continue his journey to the village.
As the speaker realized he was not near the village where his friend lived. His struggle to honor his obligation began. Had it not been for the calmness of the snowy woods the speaker would have been able to continue his journey without any delay. For instance, the topic of the poem is about a snowy evening in the woods, which could be viewed as pleasant and easy going as oppose to a hot summer evening in the city which is most often busy and frantic with lots of things to do. In addition, the speaker is obviously a loner, in that he takes this journey by his self. That is an example of him being a solitary person who is not confronted with conflict often. Ironically, his familiarity with the peacefulness of the woods provides a conflict, struggle, or pressure that he must deal with.
Even though the speaker eventually continued his journey to the village. His desire to dwell in the snowy surroundings loomed over him. He expressed more of his thoughts through his horses' actions as he listened to the easy wind blowing through the air, and he found appreciation in the serenity of the woods.
