`Studying History is Pointless'

Some people are of the view that studying history is a waste of time because it has already happened and you should be focussing on the future. Others argue that you can learn from the past and it's helpful to know what happened to your predecessors. People have mixed emotions on whether they find it interesting, boring or pointless. I personally find history interesting and enjoy learning about the different ways other people in the past lived. However this doesn't necessarily mean that it is worth learning about just because I enjoy it. So I am going to discuss whether or not there is a reason to study history or if it is just pointless.

deserve to be remembered for the great service they did their country by getting what are now considered ordinary allowed. In hundred years does Nelson Mandela who gave up so much fighting for equal rights for black people in South Africa deserve to be forgotten? Shouldn't he be remembered not just for the great sacrifices he made but so that in the future it doesn't get repeated, or so that if it does get repeated they can remember that they can make a difference and stop it.
