Summary of "The Story of an Hour" and "The Storm"

In the short story "The Story of an Hour," it is quickly mentioned that Mrs. Mallard, one of the main characters, has an extremely weakened heart. The author, Kate Chopin, makes this evident right from the beginning in order to show the reader that Mrs. Mallard requires a certain level of sensitivity toward her as well as to start the short story out with a piece of shocking information that will keep the reader interested and engaged throughout. felt like her husband kept her living in confinement, and actually found his death a relief. The sense of freedom that Mrs. Mallard feels creates an extremely enthusiastic person who can barely contain her excitement for all that she has yet to experience. Excited to live life to its fullest, Mrs. Mallard begins discussing what she can do as a free woman, but to everyone's surprise, Mr. Mallard walks into the house, very much alive. Unfortunately, Mrs. Mallard's newfound excitement for her freedom coupled with the fact that her husband never actually died, puts her in a stage of shock. Ultimately, this shock kills Mrs. Mallard and the weakness of her heart proves to be a real trouble.
