Errors are the flawed side of learner speech or writing.

- Major purposes studying learner’s errors are:

a. It provides data from which interference about the nature of the language learning process can be made
b. It indicates to teachers and curriculum developers which part of the target language students have most difficulty producing correctly and which error types detract most from a learner’s ability to communicate effectively.

2. The Error Anaysis Movement

The Errors Analysis was the refreshing alternative analysis to the previous approach which called “Contrastive Analysis” (CA). The contrastive analysis treatment of errors, which was popular up through the 1960’s, rested on a comparison of the learner’s native and target languages. It held that learning was basically a process of forming automatic habits and that error should therefore result from first language habits interfering with the learner’s attempts to learn new linguistic behaviors. It was thought that Ca of the learner’s two languages would predict the areas in the target language that would pose the most difficulty.
