Tale Of Two Cities Resurrection

Resurrection is defined as the act of returning to life or bringing back the practice, notice or use of. There are many different types of resurrection such as; religious resurrection, psychological resurrection, and secular or physical resurrection. Examples of these different kinds of resurrections are symbolized throughout the whole story of the Tale of Two Cities. The theme of resurrection in The Tale of Two Cities is developed through the main characters.

Dr. Manette is led to his freedom, the first physical resurrection. Once freed from one hundred and five north tower, dr. Manette is placed in a room above the Defarge's wine shop to comfort the doctor with the only life he has known. He thinks he is a shoemaker and is still in prison until he comes in sight and contact with his daughter, Lucy. Because of Lucy, Dr. Manette remembers and psychologically resurrected. Lastly Dr. Manette is psychologically resurrected in Paris as he saves Charles from death. During the French Revolution Dr. Manette has become a celebrity in Paris for being locked up for 18 years, and that is why the jury hears his testimony and releases Charles. Where as in England everyone knew him as a weak man that they must be delicate around. In England he was weak, but Paris he was powerful. This was the first time Dr. Manette saw a purpose for his suffering.
