people are the native civilisation of Australia. They are believed to be the most primitive people in the world. The homeland of these people is so inhospitable that few Europeans have travelled into it. The traveller made his main camp at Ernabella Mission Station with his wife and research assistant Larui. They would stay here for a month to gather information on the tribal life of culture and where all the waterholes were for their journey to Mount Conner, Ayers Rock, and Mount Olga.

Most of these pillars were more than five hundred feet high. Some were over 1000 feet high. They were getting ready for the celebration of the mountain devil. This was a ceremony for only young men none of the women or elder men attended this gathering.
