In the movie, "", three unique characters undergo three completely different spiritual conversions. All of these bear at least slight similarities to the conversion of the criminal on the cross beside Jesus in Luke 23:32-42. All four of these individuals see the light of God at some point or another although under vast circumstances with varying outcomes.
The story of the criminal in the Gospel of Luke is a simple story. It speaks of Jesus and two other men condemned to death. One of the men shares the beliefs of the Roman guards and yells at Jesus, "Aren't you the Christ? Then save yourself and us." (Luke 23:39). and uses his influence to become a pillar of the community. However, slowly loses everything he holds dear. He loses his wife to another man and loses his job at "his church". He then commits a heinous act which puts his wife's lover in the hospital and eventually kills him. Then he chooses the least honorable reaction as he skips town and telling only his closest friend of his whereabouts. 's conversion begins as soon as he begins to become accustomed to life without an adoring audience. Throughout the film, he is an honestly good and decent man around those he is closest to.
