I think there are a lot of significant things about this quote. First I love the way he views his wife. She truly is a “valuable piece”, but I would not have said “personal property” because that is like referring to her an object. Furthermore I do not fully understand the meaning “suffered some damage” because he continues to look at her as though nothing is wrong with his dear wife. part in the novel, it made some things make sense. Her crying at first, bought about signs that something was wrong and mistaken. Now it all makes perfect sense. It is irony involved now. Mr Pontellier loves and adores his wife while she, on the other hand, does not want to be with him. In this and any other instance for that matter, anything involving an accident does not end up turning out very good. I honestly feel sorry for her husband because she did not want to meet him. She had something else going on, on the side, so she was content with life at that moment. The last part of this quote reminds me of something we talked about in Sabbath School one weekend. We discussed how a woman can not court a man because her emotions of love for a man could and probably would change, but a man; if he really loved her he would continue to chase after her until he won her over. Sadly that is what happened in this story.

It kind of reminds me of a decision I have to get ready to make now. Where will I go to college?
