Run! Yelled Emile as the rumble of planes closed in on the small town. The fruit on the market stalls started to topple over. There was a sudden stampede of people trying to escape the bombing. As the first bomb hit it screamed out an ear-splitting roar and pieces of concrete erupted over the town. This was only one bomb, from one plane. Imagine the effect of more bombs on this small, innocent town.

Emile and his sister sprinted towards their home, the metal monsters circled overhead. The safety of the home was insight when a bomb hit one street away from them. A shock wave grasped onto their bodies, and threw ...

He opened his eyes, to smell smoke and see the blurry remains of the basement. Emile clambered to his feet, but fell back over as the reality of what had just happened set in. Emile climbed to his feet again, this time to wearily climb the steps into the mangled remnants of his living room. His house was small, and cramped, but as his father had got a degree back in America he could afford the luxury of a basement. That basement saved Emile’s life. All that greeted him when he reached the top of the stairs was a street that he didn’t recognise, a rubble-strewn street. Emile stumbled backwards and turned around to go back into the basement. As he started walking towards the basement the sound cement on cement reached his ears. He looked up to see a huge wall of cement tumbling off the remaining story of the apartment building next to his house. It fell onto the roof of the basement and perched itself there for a few seconds ...
