The Breakfast Club is a staple coming of age movie that has lasted throughout decades, showing teenagers that no matter where we come from we can all relate. Reaching out to five general stereotypes you will find walking through the halls of almost any high school, The Breakfast Club was able to appeal to many teenagers no matter the decade. The music, the characters, and the overall commonalities amongst the five teenagers play a huge part in making this film so meaningful to many people.

the characters have come to relate to one another, the movie closes with the opening song "Don't You (forget about me)" and the song takes on an entirely new meaning to the audience. This song became the anthem for a group of rowdy kids that found hope in each other despite their differences.
Another important part of the film is the diversity of the characters. In order for this film to be a successful coming of age movie the message has to reach a variety of teenagers. Filling the movie with the positivity of "the jock," the mystery of "the criminal", the vanity of the "princess", the intelligence of "the brain", and the sadness of "the basket case", the movie covers the different stereotypes teenagers are labeled with. Whether someone is a "mathlete" or the most popular girl in school, this movie provides a variety of characters with the ability to relate.
