Ever since J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye has been published it has been criticised for its harsh use of language, moral issues, and explicit bad behavior portrayed through the main character Holden Caulfield. Holden shows that he doesn't care about life, he thinks everyone in the world is a phoney and that word is used quite frequently throughout the book. He's constantly spending money and using bad language. It seems as though he follows none of the rules we are all taught to follow in our lifetime. growing up I can relate to some of Holden's feelings. Some of the things he shares with us are things most kids would never admit to, but I feel that's another reason many people love this book. Holden doesn't get close to anyone in the book and he mostly keeps to himself.
Although you hear Holden use some curse words throughout the book I feel that it isn't overused more than any other adverage person in the world would say it. People act schoked and ashamed when they read a "supposed" young teens book and hear the word "ass" but before they read the text it is used in they're already judging the book. Holden doesn't use the word "ass" in an offensive way throughout the book he more or less uses it to describe the physical body part. Like he would say "I'm freezing my ass off." He also tends to use the word hell many times in the book, but honestly he isn't using it to be harsh like saying "go to hell" he just uses it to describe something like "this is fun as hell" which I ...
