A major controversy facing the world today is capital punishment. Criminals no doubt deserve to be punished, and the severity of the punishment should be appropriate to their culpability and the harm they have caused the innocent. However, there are many reasonable, less controversial, and far more efficient methods of dealing with serious crime within our system without going to such extremes as the routine slaughtering of human beings. The Death Penalty is immoral, cruel and unusual, it does not deter crime, and it is applied unfairly. Unlike all other criminal punishments, the death penalty is irrevocable. It should be abolished.
