Poe’s poetry, in general, was an attempt for him to embody the ideas in his imagination and express his feelings. The deep sadness he felt for the loss of love can be seen in poems such as The Sleeper and Lenore. Poetry also allowed him to express the pain of his isolation, and the feelings of alienation that he got from being an orphan as a child.
