Today when we watch basketball we see it played a certain way. In 1990 however, many people would be offended from how basketball in college and NBA looks today. From the way players dress, play, and act on the court. Chris Webber, along with the rest of Michigan’s 1991 recruiting class today known as the “Fab Five” started a revolution. But with every revolution, comes controversy.
Many know Chris Webber through his NBA career.He was the first pick of the draft, the Rookie of the Year, a 5 time All-Star, a 5 time All-NBA, and was one game away from NBA Finals. But Chris’ college career was even more successful. He brought Michigan to the Championship game ...

Fab Five were the first to wear those baggy shorts and black shoes and socks. The Fab Five brought in a new style of playing as well. They played with an up tempo, high flying pace. They threw alley-oops and often showed off their athleticism. This is common in today’s game but not seen at their time. The Fab Five offended many viewers at that time. They talked trash, got up in other players faces, and show boated while playing the games. Despite the hate from some, the Fab Five also brought in much revenue to big name sponsors. Sponsors used the Fab Five’s popularity with the youth to sell many of their new items that the Fab Five wore. The game was going through a revolution.
If you look for all of Chris Webber and the Fab Five’s accomplishments in the record books you won’t find them. In June 1997, the Detroit Free Press revealed sources that claimed Chris Webber had received at least $100,000 from Ed Martin, a booster at Michigan.
