The Great Gatsby is a novel about a young man named Nick who encounters a wealthy man by the name of Gatsby and becomes involved in a world of corruption and blindness. Eyes and distorted vision are used to portray corruption of society through the eyes of T.J Eckleberg, the owl eyed man, and intoxication.

Intoxication shows how distorted vision proves people were corrupt. In the novel the glamorous parties thrown in the East and West Eggs were extravagant and hosted the wealthiest people in the surrounding areas. directly after he begins to have a conversation with one of the men there about his adventures in the war. Another moment is when Gatsby is confronted by Tom for having feelings with his wife. When he questions Gatsby about his life, and is astounded by the achievements he has attained his wife is caught on impulse to open a bottle of whiskey. “Open the whiskey, Tom’, she ordered, ‘and I’ll make you a mint julep.
