The Greatest Accomplishment Of President John Adams



To fight, or not to fight? This is the very choice that John Adams faced when he was elected President of the United Sates of America. Britain and France had been fighting in Europe and, although they were both stealing our ships, they could have each used our help. It was up to John Adams’ to decide whose side to fight on and whether or not to fight at all. Adam’s decided to steer free from fighting and not enter the war at all. It was this decision which was John Adams’ greatest accomplish as President.

on us. The government couldn’t tax its citizens, for taxation had always backfired in the past. Because of these money issues, John Adams decided not to join the war.
Another reason why Adams didn’t join the war was due to the nation’s confusion as to which side to defend. America was already divided into two supporting groups; whichever side was chosen, half the country would be extremely upset. The Federalists supported the British side. They felt that Britain had a much greater chance at winning and was much more powerful than France was. They thought that if we assisted the British, our trade with them could skyrocket and our ties with the old “motherland” would become stronger. Some Federalists even supported Britain simply because they had family and friends living there. On the other hand, The Democratic Republicans were anxious to back the French. They felt that the British were the “bad guys” in all situations and that we should repay the French for helping us ...
