From these first experiences of her life Eve develops the sense of identity that will remain with her through her life. She sees herself as a thing of beauty. This is similar to the process that all individuals go through as they grow up. Notably, this does not occur as quickly as it does with Eve. Instead, the individuals learns who they are and attaches meaning to this through their childhood and adolescence. This sense of identity then continues with a person and has the ability to shape their actions.

People compare themselves to others and if they feel they are lacking, they feel a need to develop this quality. This can be seen as the driving force behind people's need to succeed and to purchase.
