Proceeding the era that is known as the "Medieval Times," Europe experienced a rebirth of learning that is known today as the Renaissance Period. This "rebirth," which lasted from about 1350 b.c. until 1550 b.c., brought about the revival of the classics such as Latin and Ancient Rome, and became known as "humanism." Later, humanism began to put an emphasis on the need to learn the Greek language, art, architecture, and philosophy. Unlike Christianity, humanism put the focus the aspects of man rather than focusing on God. Placing the focus on man alone, would eventually lead to the problem of the relationship between men and women during the Renaissance.

allowed to study religion, history, art, poetry, architecture, music, and dance. This education was for the sole purpose of making women a toy for the entertainment of men.
In physical appearance, women were to be everything that a man was not. They were to be soft and tender, rather that solid and sturdy. In public a man should make his presence known, whereas a woman should be passive and try not to draw attention to herself. For women, beauty was seen as the most important feature. This goes on to show how women were simply objects of affection for fulfilling the pleasures of men.
Many humanists viewed women with distrust, and saw them as the reincarnate of Eve. To anger a man during the time of the Renaissance, could be dangerous for a woman. There were no longer the ideals of chivalry and courtesy towards women. The moral obligation to protect the weaker sex was gone.
