The moment I opened the door to the wretched smelling restroom, my whole body seemed to gag. The musty air and urinous smell teased my esophagus, wrenching my entire throat and insisting that I leave. Prepared to do so, I was reminded of my present and urgent need to use the restroom, despite its putrid condition. I tiptoed over the floor, which was littered with everything from old gum to a glob of something that slightly resembled moldy creamed corn. Stepping over a used Kleenex, its contents oozing through the cheap single-ply tissue, I opened the door to the bathroom stall. In a rush, I attempted to dry my hands over the trash can when my ring slipped off my finger and into the disgusting pit of vile objects. At first I was upset at my loss, but then I became furious. Inside, I witnessed a mass of matter I hadn’t until that day ever viewed so rank. First I cast aside a carton of milk from centuries ago, containing a small pool of remnant lactose, spoiled into a creamy matter. I elevated and examined a discarded pizza crust, and it weeped a small dot of ruby sauce on my newly bought sneakers.
