This calculation was reached by an architect, whose name was Walter A.
Rabold, was hired by the Board of Education to draw up plans and reach an
estimate (Bottger Newbury’s One Room Schools) . This price was beyond
what the community was willing to pay for it. They were unwilling to pay
as proof shown by a vote which the Board held in May of 1925 for the
community. The people of the township were notified of the vote by an ad
that was placed by the Board in The Geauga Republican Record. After the ad
had been in the paper for a while, the vote was held. It was held on two
different issues. The issues were the centralization of all of the one
room school houses [Newbury had about nine in all] and the bond issue.
The issue of centralization was passed.
However, the bond issue was unsuccessful and failed. After being
