The Physics Of Cheerleading
The Physics of Cheerleading
Most people consider cheerleading a weak activity that requires girls dressing up in cute uniforms and waving around pompoms. However, cheerleading is an intense sport that requires practice, dedication, and knowledge of skills. Just like any other sport, physics is involved in cheerleading one hundred percent. Physics is found in every single motion and stunt. Cheerleading is based on stunts, tumbling, and jumps and since physics is so involved in this sport it makes this sport actually exist. Physics is involved in everything we do in life, whether it is the effect of gravity when someone is tripping or the acceleration of a car on the way to school, we ...

force, torque, angles and gravity. Cheerleading, just like any other sport, would be impossible without physics.
Newton’s first law, an object in motion will remain in motion until an external force is applied to it, is detrimental to cheerleading. This law allows the tumbler to finish their skill, by landing from the flip with their knees bent, which will exert the power from the skill into the floor. If a tumbler were to try and land the skill with the knees locked, only some of the power would be put into the floor and the rest would stay with the tumbler to either shoot them back into the air or the power would send the cheerleader back to fall on their back(Cavalier, Darlene.)This law allows the cheerleader to have stability to safely land their skill. The first law of motion is very relevant in the case of Cheerleading. When a cheerleader is connecting tumbling skills in a sequence the demonstrate this law. For example, after landing a Round-off, they might use the ...

in the air as possible to ensure a successful flip.
Newton’s Third Law, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, may be considered the most important of the three laws. When tumbling, a cheerleader’s body is exerting a force into the spring floor and the floor is putting back the same amount of force that was previously applied(Cavalier, Darlene.) Without this law, there would be no height added to the skill that was being attempted and all the force that was being put into the floor would just stay there instead of being used to boost the tumbler into the air. This law is vital to the success of all skills.
Angular momentum is when angular speed increases or ...
