The Truman Show

A strong human spirit is essential for a Journey. A Journey can either be an emotional or physical one. This is evident in the film "The Truman Show", directed by Peter Weir, where the protagonist, Truman Burbank experiences a sense of Journey. Truman, as played by Jim Carrey, wants to find the truth behind his life and his real identity. He lives lie and on some level knows it. Truman eventually becomes more aware that the world is virtually revolving around him. At the start of the film, we can see that Truman is a happy-go-lucky Insurance salesman. However, as the film delves deeper into the story, we can then see that Truman's life is much more complex than we may have first thought. ...

to allow the audience to see the fear that Truman is experiencing. In a flashback, we discover that Truman was with his father sailing at sea, when his father washed overboard and presumably "died". Truman then comes to a realisation that everything around him is strange when unusual events happen. With that, Truman decides to sail away from Seahaven. The fact that he is still able to sail the boat out to sea indicates how much stronger and self-determined he has become. This enraged the director, Christof, and made him want Truman to suffer his fears by ordering huge storms. The loud music that was being used during this scene was suitable as it created a more dramatic and intense touch. With the damaging storms, this symbolizes a strong human spirit and a change in Truman's journey. He never gave up and built his courage to reach his dreams of finding the truth behind life.
