Scientists take individual bases of DNA and replace them with CRISPR modified ones. Because of the fact that these bases are microscopic, there is a high chance that something could go seriously wrong due to the size. An example of this is shown in an article in the Washington Post. It states that, “The most recent work is particularly sensitive because it involves changes to the germline — that is, genes that could be passed onto future generations” (Cha). This means that if a base (part) in a patient’s DNA gets messed up, then that small part could potentially get passed onto future generations, which can lead to several different types of mutations and complications occurring.
