In the tragedy of "King Lear" William Shakespeare brings the use of disguise into play to such an extent that almost every character camouflages his real intentions either through his physical or behavioral countenance. Some characters use it for concealing their tyranny and barbarity while others employ it for securing respite from the oppressive designs of vicious elements.

Analysis:

As has been indicated earlier, almost all the principal characters of the tragedy use intriguing disguises to conceal their intentions. They succeed in achieving the objectives for which they put up an appearance other than what they were. But according to the universal truth that vice begets vice, those who had vicious purpose were in the end defeated and their cunning purposes were revealed and those with virtuous intensions were rewarded.
