The Veduta alla Madonnina

The Veduta alla Madonnina was named after the little fresco of the Madonna at the end of the walkway that is shown in the painting (Magnani, 1986). But even if a viewer of the painting was uninformed of the fact, the artist's perspective of the wide walkway leading down the hill, juxtaposed with the town rooftops in the foreground and the hillside in the distance, allows the imagination to visualize a young girl running down the walkway to seek solace. Learning about the little fresco, one wonders if the girl is fleeing towards the comfort offered by the presence of the Madonna.
