Throughout entire short story, Thakor juxtaposes the idea of normalcy versus what she is used to through a distinct syntax. For starters, in the first paragraph, Thakor uses a short sentence before a complex sentence to exhibit the woman's train of thought, "Shopping. An ordinary enough pastime but something that led her into an unfamiliar world." The seemingly short, one-word sentence preceding the complex sentence implies the woman's perspective of being remote to doing things of a normal light as the period after "shopping" displays the woman pausing her thought process to describe something unknown to her. Also, these are things that people do unconsciously because they regularly do them, but they are noteworthy to the woman as she makes sure to describe them in detail since she is not used to it. This evokes astonishment in the readers since they are seeing life through the woman's eyes and how different it possibly is to theirs. Overall, the woman juxtaposes the way a shopping trip is contrasted to her compared to the next person, which makes up the majority of the story.
