Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry fought for what they believed in. Having the ability to determine what is right or wrong, is usually based on opinion. The head of a country, usually a king or a president, has the deciding vote on what says and what goes. Opposing their king and president at that time, Henry and Jefferson fought for what was right to them and to the people.
Jefferson and Henry both opposed the heads of their countries, something that wasn’t attempted with success anytime prior. was driven on sheer hatred. Using some ideas from Jonathan Edwards, Jefferson derived ideas and statements based on the Enlightenment and Edwards’ sermon. Edwards frightened people into conversion, as Jefferson frightened the King with the consequences that could be suffered. The King and government were in debt as much as it was, so refusing another political battle in this way was a wise choice. Henry stated in regards to the president, “Sir, we have done everything that could be done to advent the storm which is now coming on.” Using the people as a backbone, Henry explained that the people weren’t receiving what they were entitled to (natural rights). Realizing that rebellion was common amongst angry people, the president must have been weary about making a decision. Both Jefferson and Henry used all options necessary to get what they wanted.
