In chapter 31, Sober focuses on ethical conventionalism and other concepts related to it. Ethical conventionalism is the view there are indeed ethical facts which will depend on someone's say-so. They are three kinds of ethical conventionalism: divine command theory, ethical relativism, and ethical individualism.
The divine command theory is the view that actions are good or bad solely because God commands us to do or forbids us from doing them. For example, saying that helping people is good is the same as saying God command us to help other people. Similarly, it is evil to hurt people because God forbids it. One ...

Besides, there are two further problems posed in terms of divine command theory. The first objection that Sober makes to divine command theory is that how we know that God exists, and even if God exists there is still one more question that whether we correctly interpret what God wants us to do. Another objection generated by Sober is that if the divine command theory is true, whatever God command us to do is right and vice versa. Therefore, it seems to imply that if God commands us to murder, cheat or steal, then these actions will be considered morally right. How can it be that? Even if it is God's command, it is still morally wrong. One might argue that God is good, and He surely would not command us to commit those actions, but it is not in accordance with the divine command theory.
