The Thrissur pooram, a traditional temple carnival, celebrated at the grand premises of year old Vadakkumnatha Temple which is situated on the hillock of Thekkinkadu Maidanam which is rightly at the centre of the city. The temple, a specimen of rich Kerala architecture, is spread on a nine acre land with huge Gopurams through which elephants can pass through.
