Dear Teacher,

The film version of To Kill A Mockingbird should be left out of the unit. In my opinion, the movie was not as highly informative as the novel was. It left out many details that emphasized important themes in this American classic. The film also leaves out a handful of characters that were significant in the book. The movie does not portray as much educational value as the novel does.

Many important characters in the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, did not appear in the movie. For example, Aunt Alexandra was not spoken of in the film. Aunt Alexandra is a crucial character in the book because she teaches Jem and Scout to be well behaved. She also lives with the Fiches while ...

book, but not in the movie. For example, since Mrs. Dubose does not appear in the movie, the idea of courage does not stand out like it does in the book. Link Deas also emphasized courage in the novel, but he did not appear in the movie. Another important theme in the story is the idea of Jem maturing. In the book Scout continues to tell us how much Jem is changing and he is beginning to see the world from a different perspective. The movie does a poor job of portraying this to the viewers.

In conclusion, the film version of To Kill A Mockingbird should not be used in this unit. It does a poor job of portraying characters that are significant in this American classic. Also it leaves out many themes that are highly emphasized in the novel. Although the movie was a great representation of the book, it left out too many important characters and ideas.
