'Tuesdays with Morrie' is a non-fictional account of one student's weekly visits to his old college professor with whom he had not been in contact for 16 long years. However when they finally meet after the author has become a celebrated sports columnist, they share a special bond that leaves the author wiser as his professor shares with him his experiences and the lessons they taught him. The book is invaluable and has received international recognition and acclaim. The author, Mitch Albom, shares with the world what he learned from his professor during the last few weeks of his life.

he was still alive. His career was his sole lifeline despite the fact that he had a lovely wife and a great dream house and a brother he had not seen or heard from in years. Albom's columns had literally become his "lifeline...when I saw my stories in print each morning, I knew that, in at least one way, I was alive."

Morrie's messages and his views on life contained deep wisdom that shows that they based not on superficial urban intellectualism of today but instead on real life experiences. Morrie teaches Albom about love and life and about the idea of living and not just surviving. The author learns that culture and society are not always there to serve our purposes and they may not always teach us the right thing. "You have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn't work, don't buy it. Create your own" (pp. 35-36). Some of the most important things that I picked up from the book dealt with the issues of marriage, children, relationships etc.
