Two men who will live on forever in our history books are Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. These two men have contributed many positive and sound ideas to our American culture. Their participation in so many different fields changed the world immensely. In their later years, they were noted politicians as well as respected scholars. Both were determined men who wanted to make the world a better place to live. Many contributions made by Franklin and Jefferson still shape American society today.

In the "The Way to Wealth," one of his most popular articles which help shape American culture, he wrote, "Sloth makes all things difficult, but industry all easy, As Poor Richard says; and he that rises late must trot all day, and shall scarce overtake his business at night; while laziness travels so slowly, that poverty soon overtakes him, as we read in Poor Richard, who adds, drive thy business, let not that drive thee, and early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise" (494). Franklin felt that a working man should be proud of his accomplishments. He writes that "a plowman on his legs is higher than a gentleman on his knees" (496). Franklin had a sense of humor, and wrote with wit.
