Violence In Televeision


Specific Purpose: To persuade that violence in television does affect children.
Central Idea: Violence in Television does affect children.
INTRODUCTION

1. “We shall stand or fall by television, of that I am sure." (E.B. White, 1939, cited in Boyer, 1991, p. 79)

2. Most and more research that is done on this particular subject points to the fact that violence in television does in fact exist.

With the following, I plan to persuade that in fact it does affect children with aggressive behavior.

BODY


1. Where the effects begin.


A. Researchers have found that most children studied were in fact affect by violence that they had watched on the television.

with each other and played more with the toys. Where as the group of fourth graders who had watched the Power Rangers and G.I. Joe continued to act out the programs they had just watched with all the fighting,(kicking,punching,ect.).

B. There was also another study done on a group of older children. These children were in the sixth grade.

i. The first group was also the control group they watched the movie Bambi that contained very little violence. The second group of sixth graders watched the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Again after each movie the children were sent to play with one another to see how they would react.

ii. Once again the control group who had seen the least amount of violence were more mellow and did not have as many disputes as the group of sixth graders who had seen the Ninja Turtles.
