This assertion implies that abused children are constantly living in fear of doing something wrong or failing because their parent physically beats them until their face is dripping with blood. It is wrong for children to live in fear especially from their parents, whom they are suppose to trust the most. Oates claim on how abused children live in fear strongly correlates with poverty and its effects on families and societies.
Some extreme cases of physical abuse have led children to be hospitalized for days. At this point, social workers will then be called and brought to take the child into custody.
