The first word that detains a reader’s thoughts after reading the play is ‘absurd’. Samuel Beckett has been hailed as the pioneer of absurd plays which challenged the conventional norms of representation of plays performed at Paris and across the europe. According to aristotle’s ‘poetics’ plot is the most important and fulfilling aspect of any play. Plot is gravity point without which the whole drama would collapse. Thus european plays which were highly influenced by greek and roman literature practiced the age old convention which seem logical and easiest method to decipher the message or writer’s thought portrayed on stage.

The characters in the play can be enacted wearing a mask or colouring their faces with same colour which would enhance the director’s approach of representing all humanity through the four characters- vladimir, estargon, pozzo and lucky.
Vladimir is more resilient and wiser if compared to estragon. He remembers what they had done the previous day and estragon forgets all. Vladimir performs the duty of reminding him that they are waiting for godot. Vladimir is ready to perform actions and prove that he has an existence, which he doubts as he in both acts, sends the message through the boy to godot that they have been seen by the boy.
