Warren went to school at Blooming Groves one room school. He showed early instincts of the declamation. When he was 14, he entered Ohio Central College. He graduated after two years with a bachelor’s degree in science. He and two of his friends acquired a small town paper, the Marion Star. In five years the star became the foremost paper and most successful small town papers in Ohio. In 1914 the Star was earning him an income of $20,000 a year. He also was elected to the U.S. Senate. He was elected as a Republican to the state Senate in 1899 and he became one of the most popular senators in Columbus.

him into the national leadership of the Republican Party, where he voiced the call for unity after the progressive party split of 1912. Harding ran for president initially in 1920 and that was as a favorite son in order to solidify his position in the Ohio Republican ranks. When a deadlock developed at the convention between the supporters of Leonard Wood and Frank O. Lowden, Harding was adopted as the compromise candidate.
