Many people say several different things when trying to provide reasons for why they want to major in what they want. I feel mine to be heartfelt.
My aspirations are to benefit others and myself through obtaining a degree in Biomedical Engineering. These aspirations stem from an earlier experience that I had with my cousin. I was around the age of 13 or 14 and I was hanging out with my cousin in Texas who was probably 20 or so. We decided that we were going to go to a Texas Rangers game and my cousin wanted to bring his friend Terry. Terry was around the same age as my cousin, and they had been friends their whole life. To help people in the advancement of prostheses is definitely a key factor as to why I want to pursue this career, but along with having the satisfaction of knowing I helped someone, it comes with a great salary. The average biomedical engineer makes a salary of usually over $50,000 a year right out of college. Helping people has always been number one in my life, but a great career, with a great salary, has always been an interest of mine also. Money is important to me on more than a materialistic standpoint. I want to be able to provide my mother, my family, and myself, with things we could have never had before. I especially want to try and help different charities with volunteer work or money, and I find this all to be much more possible with this degree.
