In the time of Moses, the Egyptian Pharaoh had enslaved the Israelites. They were forced to build monuments and buildings. The Israelites could not defend their rights, and lead themselves out of Egypt to save themselves from injustice. Moses was asked by God to lead the Israelites to freedom. In the movie “The Long Walk Home,” the story takes place in 1955 in Montgomery Alabama. The black people experienced very little freedom. They were not allowed to sit at the front of the bus with white people. As a result of this racism, they started a boycott. No black person would ride the city buses. When God asked Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses was flattered, but at the same time apprehensive about speaking in public. Although he was afraid to speak to the Pharaoh to demand the Israelites be set free, he demonstrated his leadership skills by speaking with great confidence. He would not give in and continue to let the Pharaoh do as he wished with the Israelites. Moses was also afraid of speaking to the Israelites, but because he was a strong leader and believed in his cause, he continued spreading the word of God, gaining the trust of the people. They trusted him and let him lead the way to freedom . Another example of Moses’ leadership ability occurs when he tries to set good values and morals for his people through the ten commandments. He tried to guide them to a happy and good life if they followed the ten commandments. Being a good leader means that you should never give up no matter how hard things get.
