The story of Wohpe and the Gift of the Pipe is a story of the Lakota people and their ways of life in society. The setting is set up like it is in the jungle or in the village of the Lakotas. The Lakota people believed in a god or the “Great Spirit” also known as Wakan Tanka or the Buffalo Woman. This story is introducing the pipe in the tribe, also connecting their relationship with their god. The relationship between the Wohpe and the Lakota people can demonstrate a relationship that we may have with our God in our daily lives. The word “Wohpe” comes from when the two men went out looking for animals and found a lot more than what they were looking for, it was coming from the sky. ...

lot of imagery. Of all the imagery given you can almost feel like you are there at that time everything is happening. We know from the story what the goddess could look like because it tells us that she was wakan, which means holy; therefore, she probably looked pure and clean, also we see that she had very long hair. After she was with the people for a while she went to serve them and we see that she was dressed up very nice in the “softest deer skin ornamented with fringes and colors more beautiful than any woman of the Lakota had ever seen.” (54)
This story does have an antagonist of how the Buffalo Woman and the Wakan Tanka all mean the same person. These words all are pertaining to the goddess of the Lakota people. Also, whenever a woman is being talked about, it is mostly pertaining to the goddess.
