My Inspiration

Although we have many male heroes in combat my main focus was on our female heroes who have inspired me into wanting to become a United States Marine. I haven’t always wanted to join the military. I once wanted to become a veterinarian to care for hurt and sick animals and of course this was when I was a little girl, my feelings towards that have changed. My family hasn’t always wanted the women of the family to be as strong as the men because there are more men than women in my family and the ratio of women to men is very small, almost one female to every fifteen male or it could be smaller. This is due to the harsh training that the marines require. These women had to go through harsh training for three months breaking each other down and building each other up; they can be some of the toughest people that you can ever know. It wasn’t until 2016 that the Department of Defense lifted all the restrictions against women in combat rolls. Women choose to join the Navy and Air Force over the Marines and Army because of all the opportunities to travel. Marines and Army get stationed in the more violent areas such as Afghanistan and Iraq where most people both women and men are afraid to be stationed. I have heard many stories about these places and how it has affected them. Many stories have been turned into movies which gives me an insight to what my experience would be like if I were to ever get stationed over there.
