Redrawing state's boundaries will cause many problems and chaos on the Federal and State level. States are continually working to distinguish themselves from other states. Certain images come to mind when we think of certain states, such as Florida as the citrus state or Georgia as the peach state. Of course, there are many differences within the state but not enough to change the boundaries. Diversity will always exist and that cannot be changed.
The first problem that comes to mind: How will one change state's boundaries? Shall we do it by population, equal land distribution, by climate, by interest…? Changing ...

Also, if boundaries were redrawn states can possibly lose a large amount of resources and population. If boundaries were drawn so that Texas loses part of their oil fields to another state, chaos will occur. If Manhattan becomes Connecticut, New York will not be silent when losing a large portion of their population and wealth. States have major risks of losing a large portion of their resources, which can essentially decrease the wealth of their state.
Another example of why redrawing boundaries is a bad idea is to look at reapportionment and redistricting on a state level, which is done every ten years. Many times district lines are drawn to maximize the strength of the party in power. Racial compositions of districts are taken into account to strengthen more favorable to minorities.
