An ideal toy provides a framework for creation. An ideal toy does not define itself as having any sort built-in culture meaning. A kit of abstract parts, for example, allows complete freedom of creation, but is structured in the way that the parts only go together in certain ways. A toy car, a movie figure, a teddy bear or a Barbie, is less open-ended, and constrains play in same way, because even a very young child has obtained some culture and perceptual responses to such objects.
